We've been playing a lot of shows this month for the 20th Anniversary of Kurt Cobain. However around this time 12 years ago (April 5th 2002 to be exact) Layne Staley of Alice in Chains also passed away. Alice in Chains have always been a huge influence on us as a band and Layne's death was tragic to say the least. That year the Grammy's failed to mention him in artists that died that year. I think this says a lot of the music industry sadly at this time. Layne was a talented, misunderstood artist with a huge voice and he will never be forgotten.

Just a quick note to wish everyone a happy new year. Thanks as always for your continued support throughout 2013. This year has been a busy year for the band. The Mr. Bureaucracy music video picked up 3 nominations this year at the Berlin Music Video Awards back in April, The Portobello Film Festival in London last September and the Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival last October. Paradox have also been back on the live circuit this year playing festivals in Dublin as well as various shows in their home town of Cork with fellow rockers Screenreader. The band also supported Irish Grunge legends Kerbdog last October. Paradox drummer Mike Mac is currently overseas so we'd like to thank drummer Sean Conway for jumping behind the kit for the shows this year! Lot's of fun.

Pete has been working together with a group called The New Alternative, an online group that has been gathering together active alternative and independent bands that we feel simply need to be heard. A Free compilation album titled - The New Alternative - Volume 1 can be downloaded FOR FREE directly on bandcamp -
http://thenewalternative.bandcamp.com/album/the-new-alternative-volume-1
Volume 2 is in the works and hopefully should be out early in the new year.

Pete Mac has also been working on new material with some tracks already recorded at a studio in West Cork. No plans as of yet to release anything but plenty of new music in the pipeline. 2014 will tell more :)
Until then here's a new year message from Nirvana :) -

Hey guys,Paradox are happy to announce that we will be joining fellow Cork band Screenreader for a second outing at The Crane Lane Theatre in Cork on Wednesday November 27th. Late show kicking off at 11.30pm. Both bands previously played together last March as part of the 'Where is the Alternative' at the Crane Lane which included Screenreader drummer Andy playing for the Paradox set and some double bass action for Screenreader with Paradox bassist Jette jumping up as a second bass player for their last song. Screenreader ::

Cork band Screenreader came into being with the release of their debut album “Disconnect the Dots” in January 2012. Burning a trail from start to finish with mechanical samples, high-impact dynamics and fuzzed up electronic textures, the album has received high praise from critics as well as a quickly growing fan base, resulting in consistent national radio airplay from the likes of 2fm’s Dave Fanning and Dan Hegarty, along with airplay from regional and local radio stations. The band also played a slot at the Indiependence festival in 2012.

2013 has seen Screenreader record a live session for 2FM as well as hitting the road to play live as often as possible. The band will also be following up their 2012 debut album with further recordings in the coming year to capture what they’ve discovered about themselves as a band while working.

Paradox supporting Kerbdog at Cyprus Avenue in Cork

Hey guys,
Paradox are very happy to announce that we will be supporting Irish 90's Alternative Rock/Grunge legends Kerbdog this coming Sunday October 27th at Cyprus Avenue in Cork. Tickets directly from
http://www.cyprusavenue.ie/
Kerbdog was formed in 1991 by Cormac Battle (vocals/guitar), Colin Fennelly (bass guitar) and Darragh Butler (drums)
In early 1993, Kerbdog signed with Mercury Records subsidiary Vertigo Records. That summer, Kerbdog recorded their self-titled debut album. The album was produced by Jack Endino, who helped cement the Seattle grunge sound along with sub pop. Whilst recording, Kerbdog were also planning a major tour of the British clubs. In early 1996, the Mercury Music Group was bought over by PolyGram Records, and Kerbdog shifted to Fontana Records, Vertigo's sister label at PolyGram. That spring, the band returned to the recording studio to work on their second album. Produced by GGGarth, On The Turn was recorded in Los Angeles. In late 1996, the band recorded a session for Dave Fanning's show on 2FM RTÉ radio. Tracks recorded were ‘Sally’, ‘Hard To Live’, ‘Mexican Wave’ and ‘Secure’. Music magazines such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer praised both Kerbdog's albums and featured them frequently, Kerrang! 's editor spent a weekend with the band in Kilkenny.
The album was repeatedly delayed before being released in the UK in March 1997. It sold poorly, their record label dropped the band, and their back catalog was deleted in 1997. The band soldiered on without a record label for about a year, but eventually disbanded and played their final gig at the Mean Fiddler, in Temple Bar, Dublin on 7 March 1998.
Kerbdog reformed in 2005. They played several gigs in Ireland that year, most notably two sell-out concerts in February at the Temple Bar Music Centre, Dublin, followed by a set at the Oxegen music festival in July. Kerbdog have continued to play occasional one-off shows, including a sellout at Cyprus Avenue last year.
Throughout the 90's Alternative music scene Kerbdog held the flag for Ireland as being a valid part of this scene and Paradox are delighted to be sharing the stage with this band :) For anyone who hasn't heard Kerbdog here's their classic track 'Sally' -

See you guys at the show!
